Babalu Tapas & Tacos will open on July 25th in the old Cantina 1511 location on East Boulevard. Think Soul Gastrolounge with tacos and Tex-Mex. – Rebecca, the Babalu Charlotte General Manager, told me that they’re known for their guacamole ($9.95) and recommended their Redfish Tacos ($9 or $3.50 each) and Filet on a Stick ($11.95). – Maggie, the Bar Manager, told me her favorite cocktails are the Pepe O’Malley (Hendricks gin, fresh-squeezed lemonade, garnished with cucumber wheel & mint) and the Baba-Rita (Patron Silver, Agave nectar, fresh-squeezed sour mix, POM, triple sec).

Babalu Charlotte fast facts

• Opening. Restaurant officially opens Monday July 25.
• Deals. $2 tacos Monday – Friday from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. There will also be daily drink specials, but those haven’t been finalized yet.
• Parking. Valet parking is available for lunch Monday – Friday and dinner Thursday – Sunday.
• Food. Rebecca, the Babalu Charlotte general manager, told me that they’re known for their guacamole ($9.95) and that her two favorite dishes are the Redfish Tacos (blackened or fried Gulf redfish, fresno pepper slaw, jalapeno-poblano vinaigrette, radish — $9 or $3.50 each) and the Filet on a Stick (Aspen Ridge Natural Beef grilled skewered tenderloin, teriyaki glaze, rosfi potatoes, broccolini, pico de gallo — $11.95).
• Promotion. Once Babalu Charlotte hits 10,000 Charlotte Facebook likes (current count is roughly 5,000), they’ll launch their Margarita Mondays – $3 off all margaritas on Mondays.
• Hours. Monday – Thursday 11 a.m.- 10 p.m. Friday- Saturday 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m.- 9p.m.
• Cocktails. Maggie, the Babalu Charlotte bar manager, told me her favorite cocktails are the Pepe O’Malley (Hendricks gin, fresh-squeezed lemonade, garnished with cucumber wheel & mint) and the Baba-Rita (Patron Silver, Agave nectar, fresh-squeezed sour mix, POM, triple sec).
